RECENT GREG FISHMAN SAXOPHONE AND JAZZ IMPROV MASTERCLASSES
JAMEY AEBERSOLD CAMP
It was a great honor for me to be teaching alongside legendary jazz educators Jerry Coker and David Baker at the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Workshop. I had a wonderful time, and met some fantastic students and teachers from around the country. Thank you Jamey, for making me a part of your team!

Mr. Koh is the top saxophone player in Bangkok, and he set up a masterclass for me to teach ten saxophone instructors my approach to jazz improvisation. Koh was translating my comments into the Thai language for the group.

We had a great day at Koh's "Sax Society," a retail saxophone shop, and teaching center in Thailand, just outside of Bangkok.

Masterclasses are a lot of fun, and everyone leaves the class with new ideas for practicing and improvising.

Thanks to director Steve Carmichael and to all of the great students at Carthage College for having me out to the school to give a masterclass, clinic and concert. It was great to work with all of you, and you sounded fantastic on the concert. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again in the future.

Colorado Springs clinics
Thank you to Brad Bietry and BAM (Broadmoor Academy of Music) in Colorado Springs for bringing me in as a clinician to work with music students at nine different high schools and colleges. It was a fantastic week, and everyone was sounding just great at the concerts. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Colorado later this year.

Pictures from four of the nine clinics in the Colorado Springs area. Thank you to all of the schools, teachers and students who made this trip such a success. I really enjoyed working with the students, and I look forward to seeing each of you again!

Teaching & performing as an artist-in-residence
at the University of North Carolina
In September 2007, I had the honor of teaching and performing as an artist-in-residence at the University of North Carolina. Jim Ketch, head of the jazz studies program, made all of this possible. In addition to being an incredible trumpeter, Jim is a dedicated educator. I'm looking forward to many more visits to his school. Below are a few of Jim's comments and reflections on my stay at his school.

"Greg Fishman is an outstanding jazz artist and a superb clinician for university, college, and high school jazz programs. Greg has spent years studying the beauty and nuances of jazz expression and his tenor saxophone solos are the logical extension of his vivid aural imagination. He plays what he sings so convincingly. Every chorus is a rich model for study.

The joy in working with Greg is that he has all the intellectual gifts to explain his artistry in very clear terms. His deep love of the music and his total dedication to the art form were simply apparent in every minute of his four day artist residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The audiences were thrilled with Greg's stunningly beautiful improvised solos and my students and I were inspired to work harder and with more intention. Not only would I welcome Greg Fishman back as a guest artist and clinician, I would welcome him as a colleague on the bandstand, on the road, or in a teaching environment."
